μC-SemPS: Energy-Efficient Semantic Publish/Subscribe for Battery-Powered Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we present our lightweight semantic publish/ subscribe system μC-SemPS that is targeted towards battery-powered micro-controllers and wireless sensor nodes in ubiquitous computing environments. The key challenge that we address is to minimize the overall energy consumption for subscription matching and delivery. Our system relies on an efficient representation of semantic subscriptions and favours computation over the more expensive wireless communication for the semantic matching and routing of events. When compared to more conventional pub/sub routing implementations, experimental results from network and energy simulations with MiXiM, an OMNeT++ modeling framework for wireless mobile networks, show that our approach for routing semantic events significantly reduces energy consumption.

Towards energy-aware semantic publish/subscribe for wireless embedded systems
In this article, we present our lightweight semantic publish/subscribe system μC-SemPS that is targeted towards wireless battery-powered embedded systems in ubiquitous computing environments. The key challenge that we address is the minimization of the overall energy consumption, which involves computational aspects for semantic subscription matching, and communication aspects for the delivery ...
متن کاملAn Ontology-Based Publish/Subscribe System
Expressiveness and matching efficiency are two key design goals of publish/subscribe systems. In this paper, we introduce the Semantic Web technologies into the publish/subscribe system and propose an ontology-based publish/subscribe (OPS) system. The system can make use of the semantic of events to match events with subscriptions, and can support events with complex data structure (such as gra...
متن کاملSemantic Peer-to-Peer Overlays for Publish/Subscribe Networks
Existing publish/subscribe systems suffer from several drawbacks, such as the reliance on a fixed infrastructure of reliable brokers, or the lack of expressiveness of their subscription language. Most importantly, the challenging task of routing messages based on their content remains a complex and time-consuming operation, and often provides results that are just barely better than a simple br...
متن کاملI know what you mean: semantic issues in Internet-scale publish/subscribe systems
In recent years, the amount of information on the Internet has increased exponentially developing great interest in selective information dissemination systems. The publish/subscribe paradigm is particularly suited for designing systems for routing information and requests according to their content throughout wide-area network of brokers. Current publish/subscribe systems use limited syntax-ba...

Publish/subscribe systems are an alternative to query-based systems in cases where the same information is asked for over and over, and where clients want to get updated answers for the same query over a period of time. Recent publish/subscribe systems such as P2P-DIET have introduced this paradigm in the P2P context. In this chapter we built on the experience gained with P2P-DIET and the Edute...
